  Unit 1 My New Teachers

  The first period

  I Background information

  1.students:40 primary school students, grade 5

  2. Lesson duration: 40 minutes

  II Teaching Aims

  1.Knowledge objects

  ⑴ Key vocabulary: young, old, tall, short, strong, thin, funny, kind.

  ⑵ Target language: Who is your art\English\Chinese\math teacher? What is he like?

  2.Ability objects

  Listening skills; Speaking skills; Communicative competence

  3.Moral objects

  To let students learn more about their teachers and communicate frequently and respect their teachers.

  A tape recorder, some pictures and cards

  VII Teaching procedures

  Step1 Greet the whole class and introduce myself

  T: Hello! I am your new teacher, Mrs. Zhang.

  S: Hello! Mrs. Zhang.

  T: Nice to meet you!

  S: Nice to meet you, too!

  Step 2 Warming Up

  Let students listen to the chant of page 2, then ask them to read after the tape recorder and compete with each group.

  Step 3 Key vocabulary learning

  T: today I will introduce two famous teachers to you; one is a PE teacher, the other is a performer. (Show two sections of video, one is Yao Ming who is playing basketball; the other is part of movie” Hands Up”, Pan Changjiang is as a key actor in it.)

  T: Yao Ming is good at playing basketball who can be our PE teacher; while Pan Changjiang is a comedian, we can also learn a lot from him. Now compare Yao Ming and Pan Changjiang, and then tell us their differences.( teach the new words and read the new word to students ,then ask students to repeat the chant )

  T: What’s Yao Ming like?

  S: Yao Ming is tall.

  T: Tall, tall, tall, Yao Ming is tall.

  S: Tall, tall, tall, Yao Ming is tall.

  T: What’s Pan Changjiang like?

  S: Pan Changjiang is short.

  T: Short, short, short, Pan Changjiang is short.

  S: Short, short, short, Pan Changjiang is short..

  Use the same method to learn “young” and “old”.

  T: We all know that basketball player must be strong; Yao Ming is strong, too.

  T: Strong, strong, strong, Yao Ming is strong.

  S: Strong, strong, strong, Yao Ming is strong.

  T: Let’s learn the opposite of strong. Thin, thin, thin, she is thin.

  S: Thin, thin, thin, she is thin.

  T: “Hands Up” is a very interesting movie, Pan Changjiang is funny. Funny, funny, funny, Pan Changjiang is funny.

  S: Funny, funny, funny, Pan Changjiang is funny.

  Step 4 Practice

  Activity 1 teacher compose chant for students.

  Tall, tall, tall, my father is tall.

  Short, short, short, my brother is short.

  Young, young, young, my sister is young.

  Old, old, old, my grandpa is old.

  Strong, strong, strong, my uncle is strong.

  Thin, thin, thin, my aunt is thin.

  Funny, funny, funny, my friend, Tom, is funny.

  Activity 2 Listen to the dialogue in page 4, play the tape for the first time ,students only listen; then play it again, this time ask students to read after the tape.

  Activity 3 Pair work

  Show some pictures of different teachers, teacher give an example first, and then ask students to work in pairs.

  T: Who is the art teacher?

  S: The art teacher is Miss Gao.

  T: What’s Miss Gao like?

  S: She is young and kind.

  (Then have students work in pairs, make their own dialogue about the teacher in the picture and ask some students to present their conversation to the class.)

  Activity 4 Group work

  Ask students to discuss in groups about their other teachers, such as: Chinese teacher, math teacher and music teacher with target language and key vocabulary.

  Step 5 Summary

  This class we have learnt some adjectives to describe people; and we also learnt two target language; who’s your…? What’s … like?

  Step 6 Homework

  To memorize the new words and practice the use of the two target language.
